Be a Below Zero Hero! The Special Olympics Wisconsin (SOWI) Polar Plunge® winter fundraiser is a unique opportunity for brave Wisconsinites to support Special Olympics athletes by leaping into icy bodies of water across the state. Plungers consist of individuals and teams of students, law enforcement officers, business professionals, and families. Anyone is welcome! Too Chicken? No problem! Register as 'Too Chicken to Plunge' and you can raise pledges, earn incentives, and stay dry.
In 1998, the Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) International Conference was held in Anchorage, Alaska where Wisconsin law enforcement and staff attendees participated and/or observed their first Polar Plunge event. In March of 1999 Wisconsin held its first Plunge at Lake Onalaska with 315 Plungers raising more than $30,000! Since its inception in 1999, Wisconsin Polar Plungers have helped raise more than $12 million for SOWI athletes. Last year, 9,320 participants helped raise more than $1.9 million at 12 Polar Plunge venues. Thank you to everyone who was Freezin' for a Reason!
